TYPES OF INTERPRETATION

There are different types of interpreting depending on the event being organised

project 1

SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

Simultaneous interpreting is the real-time translation of the original speech. With specialized technical equipment, the interpreter listens to the speaker from a soundproof booth and immediately delivers the original message in one or more languages, depending on the audience. This is a dynamic and fluid form of interpreting that participants listen to using receivers and headphones.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?

If there is no permanent installation at the event venue, a sound technician sets up specialised interpreting equipment including, but not limited to, soundproof booth, interpreters’ consoles, sound/mixing control centre, infrared radiators, PA system with speakers on tripods, receivers/headphones and microphones.
FOR WHAT TYPE OF EVENT?

Simultaneous interpreting is suitable for all types of meetings: congresses, symposiums, training courses, assemblies, press conferences, works councils, shareholder meetings, boards of directors, presentations and negotiations, among other possibilities.
project 2

Consecutive interpretation

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter takes notes while the speaker talks and then communicates what was said in the second language when the speaker pauses. Attendees hear the original language first and then the second language. You must consider that the presentation lasts almost twice as long, as attendees listen to the two languages, one after the other.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?

This type does not require specific technical equipment, just good sound so that the interpreter can clearly hear what he/she has to interpret, a lectern or table where he/she can take notes and a microphone if the room is large.

FOR WHAT TYPE OF EVENT?

Consecutive interpreting is used in small meetings, interviews, negotiations, short press conferences, banquets, protocol speeches and all situations that require communication in two languages for a short period of time.
project 3

Whispered Interpretation "Chuchotage"

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

The interpreter sits next to the person who does not understand the language of the meeting and simultaneously whispers what the speaker is saying in another language. No technical equipment required, just good room sound.
project 4

Simultaneous interpretation with portable system

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

This is simultaneous interpretation with a portable equipment. Unlike simultaneous interpreting with a booth, the interpreter is visible during the meeting as he/she sits close to the speaker. It is only recommended for small groups and short meetings.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?

It is not necessary to set up equipment before the meeting; the system works with a headband or clip-on microphone, an interpreter's microphone and headphones for the listeners that are put on a few minutes before starting.

FOR WHAT TYPE OF EVENT?

Interpreting with the portable system is suitable for meetings with few attendees (we recommend up to 20 people), guided tours, factory sessions and other meetings where it is not feasible to install an interpretation booth or have a sound technician.
project 5

Remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI)

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

Remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) is the real-time translation of the original speech but the interpreter is not at the venue, and it is done using technical equipment and special software. Interpreters can be anywhere in the world, thus avoiding travel and hiring technical equipment on site.
This type of interpreting became essential during the COVID pandemic, since no one could travel freely or meet in large groups. It is being use more and more for video conferencing and when attendees prefer not to travel. It saves on expenses, as no travel or technical equipment are required, and it reduces our carbon footprint, which makes it more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?

Interpreters and speakers connect using a specific platform (Zoom, Kudo or Interprefy, among others) on their computer or other devices connected to the Internet. Both interpreters and speakers must have an ethernet connection to the router and headphones with a built-in microphone to ensure sound quality.
Remote simultaneous interpreting is also offered in a hybrid format (that is, there are both attendees at the venue and people connected remotely). In this case, the necessary technical equipment for traditional simultaneous interpreting is installed at the event venue and connected to streaming platforms enabled for the event for attendees who want to connect online.
Remote participants can connect using computers, phones, tablets, televisions, etc., without having to travel to the event.

FOR WHAT TYPE OF EVENT?

Remote interpreting has gained popularity during lockdown and is here to stay, as it offers multiple possibilities for communication in different languages. It is used in congresses, symposiums, training courses, assemblies, press conferences, works councils, shareholder meetings, boards of directors, presentations and negotiations, among others. The hybrid version, with attendees at the venue and others connected via Internet, is also gaining popularity.
